STUDENT ACCOMMODATION – DURHAM UNIVERSITY
Durham University development at Mount Oswald
Hedley Planning Services are delighted to have submitted a Reserved Matters and detailed application for two new colleges on the former Mount Oswald golf course: a new home for John Snow College and a new, 17th College. The proposal, costing £85 million, will result in a total of 1,000 new student bed spaces being created.
The facilities will be self-catering, with a mix of en-suite rooms, shared bathrooms, cluster flats and townhouses. There will also be a Hub, with an events hall, gym, music practice rooms, a launderette, faith room and administrative space, and a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).
Durham University and the Interserve Consortium have developed a striking design which will provide distinctive identities for both colleges, along with a Hub to be used by both colleges.
The applications are currently live and are expected to go to Planning Committee in early 2018.
“It has been a privilege to be involved in helping the Interserve Consortium secure this development. The delivery of the University Quarter of the Mount Oswald development is intrinsic to the success of the wider site and the high quality of the design is befitting of the location. The applications demonstrate the strong Education expertise of Hedley Planning Services.”
