Industrial regeneration a shot in the arm for regional housing

New homes planned for County Durham will be a much-needed shot in the arm for local housing stock.

Supported by Hedley Planning Services, the developer’s proposals for dozens of two, three, four and five bedroomed family homes and affordable properties are part of an initiative to regenerate former industrial plots across the region. New resident car parking spaces with visitor parking spots will also feature alongside new tree planting, shrubbery and site access roads under the plans.

The project comes as the Government continues to push for the delivery of new homes to meet the chronic housing shortage and arrest the decline in the affordability of home ownership.

Alex Franklin, senior planner at Hedley Planning Services, said: “This and other development initiatives are the latest step as we look forward to sites across the North East being utilised for much needed housing and creating local jobs.

“There is an urgent need for lots more affordable housing with developments like this proposed one that meet community needs, with their mix of property types and sizes to provide options for residents at varying stages of life.”
