Planning approval granted for new West Northamptonshire wind turbine scheme

A new renewable energy project in a West Northamptonshire is set to move forward after the scheme was given the green light following an appeal.

Plans will see a 21.5 metre-high micro wind turbine erected on a plot of land at Blackbridge Farm to the North West of Towcester. The move is part of a green initiative by the land owner and applicant Mr Bowen to generate enough energy to power her property and reduce the site’s carbon footprint.

Approval for the Britwind turbine, which has been designed for rural homes and farms and comes as the UK continues to face an unprecedented energy crisis, is one of the UK’s most popular small-scale wind turbines. Proposals for Blackbridge Farm will provide up to 12,000 kW p/a of power for domestic and leisure use.

In reaching a decision, the Planning Officer noted the appropriate appearance of the turbine, which is in keeping with the local agricultural context.

Joe Ridgeon, director at national planning specialist Hedley Planning, who oversaw the application, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning permission for the wind turbine. The wind turbine will contribute to lowering the applicants carbon footprint and support a greener future.

We continue to face an energy crisis in the UK, so harnessing the wind can be one of the most efficient ways to supply clean energy for local landowners and homeowners. We expect to see more applications coming forward as people continue to see the advantages and plug in to greener energy solutions.”

Start of onsite work is yet to be confirmed.
