Hedley Planning has secured planning permission for a £12.3 million affordable housing development at Todd Hill, between Castleside and Consett, County Durham, where work has now commenced.
The scheme will deliver 55 affordable homes for Castles & Coasts Housing Association (CCHA), in partnership with Adderstone Living, across a 3.78-hectare site. The development will provide a mix of two and three-bedroom houses and two-bedroom bungalows, helping to meet demand for affordable housing in the local area.
A mix of affordable housing options
Of the 55 homes, 38 will be available for affordable rent, 11 through rent-to-buy and six through shared ownership. This range of tenures is intended to give more people across County Durham access to housing options suited to their circumstances.
Part-funded by Homes England, the development will incorporate energy-efficient homes built to high environmental standards, helping to reduce carbon emissions and household energy costs.
Investing in the local community
The site benefits from views towards Hownsgill Aqueduct and the surrounding countryside. Alongside the delivery of new affordable homes, the project aims to establish a high-quality residential environment and build positive relationships with the local community.
The development represents a £12.3 million investment in the area, with the first homes expected to be ready in late spring 2027 and final completion anticipated in 2028.
Hedley Planning’s role in securing planning permission has helped enable the scheme to progress, supporting the delivery of much-needed affordable housing in County Durham.
