REDEVELOPMENT OF THE GRADE II LISTED CO-OP DEPARTMENT STORE

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Planning consent was secured for the refurbishment of the former Co-operative store on Newgate Street to a 184 bedroom hotel with basement gymnasium and ground floor retail and restaurant uses. The proposals included the demolition of a Listed water tower and chimney and the replacement of the Listed clocks and barometers. A Listed building application was submitted along with a non-material amendment to an original permission. Planning permission was granted within eight weeks. Issues included Listed buildings, demolition of part Listed building, non-material amendment.
