PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Includes a commercial office building, a new public park and a performance space.
The proposals transformed the last remaining prime Quayside site into office space and a public place for the community, presenting a new centre for children and young people’s writing; a vibrant public ‘pocket park’ restoring and revitalising the only remaining Georgian courtyard in the city; and provides for increased capacity, future resilience, sustainability and impact for Live Theatre’s work.
The construction of an office block secured income from a profitable commercial space on the Quayside which will fund at least one play and education project each year.
The courtyard also provides Live with an outdoor performance space, with the proscenium of the stage frame by the courtyard facade of the new building. The stage forms the focal point for the presentation of work produced by the Children and Young people’s Writing Centre which is based in classrooms in the conversion of grade 2 listed Almshouse.
