REDEVELOPMENT OF FORMER ALLIED IRISH BANK, 9-17 PORTLAND STREET, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Multi-million pound residential and hospitality development of the former Allied Irish Bank headquarters in Newcastle

Conversion of ground and mezzanine floor from bank (Class A2) to restaurant and bar (Class A3/A4) with associated kitchens, storage and plant at basement level. Conversion of first to third floors from offices (Class B1) to 12 flats (Class C3) flats with associated gym, cycle storage, and refuse storage in basement. Erection of extension to house extended fire escape, erection of 4 dormers windows and provision of roof terrace and lobby and provision of extract and ventilation. Twelve serviced apartments will also be built above on the first and third floors, providing high quality accommodation to meet the strong demand for city centre living space.

Plans for an onsite concierge, a gym and cycle storage will also move forward as part of an ‘exciting’ project that will see most of the existing frontage and infrastructure retained, while the overall space is boosted by the addition of a third-floor extension to the rear façade.

OUTCOMES REQUIRED / MET

Detailed and Listed Building Consent secured.

Allows immediate work to commence on site to preserve the structural integrity of the listed building and to stop water ingress.
