Regeneration of Jesmond Bus Depot, Newcastle upon Tyne
Vistry North East are seeking views in relation to their proposals for the regeneration of the former Jesmond Bus Depot.
Vistry Group is the UK’s leading provider of mixed tenure homes. Their purpose as a responsible developer is to work in partnership to deliver sustainable homes, communities, and social value, leaving a lasting legacy of places people love. Operating across 26 regions, they build homes for those who need them right across the UK. They sell homes on the open market through three respected brands: Bovis Homes, Linden Homes, and Countryside Homes. They are a regeneration specialist and are developing other key brownfield sites in the region including the former Sunderland Civic Centre and Freight Depot.
The Proposal
Our proposal is for the comprehensive regeneration of the derelict Grade II Listed Building that currently occupies the site. We are proposing to retain key character moments of the existing building but to comprehensively develop the site to create a mixed use residential and commercial/retail offering. Our proposals will revitalise the site, bringing new life and activity to a key gateway to the city which is currently detracting from the area.
The regeneration of Jesmond Bus Depot will deliver:
- Significantly enhanced street scene and re-vitalisation of an existing building, reducing the anti-social behaviour and crime to the building
- Introducing new uses providing amenity and retail options for local residents
- High quality rental accommodation
- Introducing new residents to the area, increasing spending in the local area and City Centre
- Private and public areas of open space
- Active frontage onto Portland Terrace and Jesmond Road, creating a new opportunity for the public to interact with the features of the existing building
- Enhanced pedestrian connections
- Retained and enhanced landscape buffer along Jesmond Road
