Hundreds of new homes and jobs could be created after planners gave the green light for a new multi-million pound residential development in County Durham.

The development will deliver 190 new homes in Pelton, a village to the north West of Chester-le-Street in County Durham, under plans for a mix of two, three, four and five bedroomed luxury houses.

Onsite construction work by developer Miller Homes is expected to start in late 2020, which will include provision for 29 affordable properties, with the first phase of new properties expected to be available by early 2021.

Following planning approval, Miller Homes along with North East planning consultants Hedley Planning Services, expect to see more than 500 construction, supply chain and retail jobs created.

The move will also pump millions of pounds into the local economy over the next few years as people move in and spend on local services and amenities.

Plans for the site also encompass attractive landscaped trees and hedgerows in accordance with the approved Open Space and Landscaping Plan to improve amenities for local people.

Hedley Planning Services’ director Joe Ridgeon, who liaised with County Durham Council planning department, said: “As planners, we want to see the creation of exciting and rewarding housing schemes in the north east region that leave a long-lasting legacy. This one will undoubtedly see a real positive change to this part of County Durham.”

Miller Homes sees the development contributing to the needs of the local community and delivering new homes as part of the regeneration of the area. As well as a good variety of house types, the scheme’s landscape proposals are strong, and a welcome addition to the finished development.
