Plans for a new multi-million-pound residential development by housebuilder Stonebridge Homes on Wynyard Park have been approved.
Welcomed as a further boost for regional housing stock, the move sees Stonebridge supported by North East planning specialist Hedley Planning, secure approval to push ahead with a proposal to build a mix 243 three, four and five bedroomed homes on a 15ha site at Wynyard Park.
The scheme, which will integrate with current development to the south of the site, could support nearly 200 jobs per year during the construction phase. It’s also expected to generate benefits for the wider local economy with almost £800,000 being spent annually by incoming residents in local shops and on services.
More than 120 properties will be built with enhanced accessibility, while each house will feature roof mounted photovoltaic (PV) panels, enabling renewable energy generation onsite, and facilities for electric car charging.
Existing woodland to the north is set to be retained and enhanced with additional tree and shrubbery planting with the properties integrated into the surrounding landscape, delivering ecological enhancements and reducing vulnerability to climate change in the process.
Access to the site will be via Bloomfield Drive to the south, which branches from the Hanzard Drive roundabout with the A689/Hartlepool Road.
The project comes as the Government continues to push for the delivery of new homes to meet the chronic housing shortage in the North East of England with Hedley Planning associate director Alex Franklin, who secured approval from Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Planning Committee for the scheme, adding:
“This is great news for a much-needed development that complies with planning policies and delivers high quality housing on land allocated for residential development.
“Potential new homeowners will be looking forward to moving into smart, energy saving housing in a landscaped environment with good access to local services and amenities, where they can build a community and create a sense of place.”
Emma Swannick, design and planning director at Stonebridge Homes, said: “We’ve aimed to design an attractive development that meets the needs of local people, creating a mix of property types and sizes to provide options for home-owners with varying needs and now look forward to the scheme coming to fruition.”
